Oysters
Recently, I've been reading and/or hearing the phrase "The world is your oyster", which made me wonder what exactly it means and how it applies to one's life. Well, since I'm kinda free this week , I've decided to analyze the phrase and google it of course. Okay, so after some lazy googling, I've come up with a somewhat touch-and-go explanation of the phrase:
THE WORLD IS AN (ONE'S) OYSTER - "If you have a lot of money, you can have anything you want. The proverb first appears in Shakespeare's play 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' (1600).'Falstaff: I will not lend thee a penny. Pistol: Why, then, the world's mine oyster, Which I with sword will open.' Act II, Scene II." From "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996).
: : A second reference says the phrase means: "All the pleasures and opportunities of life are open to someone because he is young, rich, handsome, successful, etc. Shakespeare invented or popularized this expression." From "Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins" by Robert Hendrickson (Facts on File, New York, 1997).
: : OK. I'm confused. Does "the world is my oyster" mean:
: : a. I have money, therefore all the good things of the world are available to me.
: : b. I don't have money, therefore the world is my oyster and I'm going to look for the pearl. OR
: : c. I'm young and good-looking and my mama loves me, therefore even though I don't have money, all the good things of the world are available to me.
: : The world is yours for the taking; whatever you make of it.
Ah-ha, so do you understand the meaning of the phrase now? Haha, Okay, I'm not too sure about the explanation having a monetary link (and the "mama loves me" part... wut???) to it, but I guess money always plays and integral part in our lives doesn't it?
To me, the phrase means that I have keep de-shelling the oyster to search for that pearl because the chances of finding a pearl is definitely not very high. Seems that I'll just be trawling through grains of sand that are embedded in the oyster. HOPEFULLY, I'd find that pearl soon, not now but probably in the future, I will. And I hope that everyone around me will get to find theirs soon.
Now I feel like eating oysters. Oh wait, eating one too many might give one diarrhoea. Haha. =D
Hail Mary.

October passed by in a whirl. I can't believe it's November already. We're drawing close till the end of 2010. Uhhuh. Well, family-wise, it's issues, issues and more issues. Dad ended up in the hospital over bowel problems, 3rd brother got kicked out of school because he couldn't get promoted to the sec 3 express stream AND youngest one broke his right arm (yes his writing hand) running around whilst getting a Slurpee from 7-Eleven. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Looks like the only person who hasn't been admitted to the hospital this year is my oldest brother.
2010 seems more fucked up than ever. =(
Just had a recall to camp at 3am this morning, gawd. Had to get to camp within 2 hours. Got there, changed to my smart 4 and signed off with my particulars. Seriously, they called us back just to sign on a piece of paper. Sigh.
Got bitched by the pass office sergeant just when I got into camp. So just because you're new, you get the right to bitch me around? Screw you, I hope you get squished by the conveyor belt of your stupid X-ray machine. Grr.
Let's pray November will be a good month. I wanna meet up with my friends from sec school/JC again! Miss you guys. Tell me asap so I can apply for off!!! Like my friend said, "Off''s an addiction!" :)
And now I shall leave you with a comic strip.
Hail Mary.
